WINDOW ON THE SOUL
WINDOW ON THE SOUL
Cactus is co producing an animated documentary with director Grace Quintanilla. The script is based on the book “Breve Diccionario Clínico de Enfermedades del Alma” (A Brief Dictionary of the Soul’s Ailments) written by Doctor Jesús Ramírez-Bermúdez, chief of neuropsychiatry at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
In his text Dr. Ramírez-Bermúdez converses with long-dead poets, outlines the theory of the psyche and revisits case histories of obsession, psychosis and delirium on his path to trying to find that human essence that makes us unique – our soul.
Production is now well under way and the Cactus offices have served as the production base with José Cohen as the executive producer, Ylva Mossing as the producer, and Gregory Allen as director of photography. Prize-winning animation company Llamarada de Petate is currently working on creating the world that will represent the inner-most thoughts and experiences of Dr. Ramírez-Bermúdez’s patients.
Soul-searching interviews and exuberant animation combined with the vibrant insanity of the mega hub that is Mexico City are slowly taking form, becoming a truly beautiful documentary.
